20 Beautiful Web Design Examples from Glasgow.

Please note: Walnut Wasp is now Glasgow branding design agency We Can Rebuild Him - click here for our up to date portfolio!

There’s plenty of web designers in Glasgow, and loads of digital agencies who build sites - and it’s hard to know how to choose one for your own project. I think we all have different specialties, and at Walnut Wasp, we’re all about the highly aesthetic. We love to design websites that are bespoke, that are very intentional and considered from a graphic design point of view, and that help to elevate the product or service that the site is showcasing. We’re a really great fit for people in highly aesthetic industries like food and beverage, hospitality, photography, interiors, or anything else where your aesthetic standards are central to your offering, and where presentation is paramount.

So - that said, here’s twenty of our favourite design-led websites that we’ve built in the recent past, in no particular order. We have loads of beautiful websites that we’re very proud of that don’t appear here, and we’ve tried to represent a range of sectors and design styles, as well as a good geographical spread across the country, and highlight recent projects in particular - so if the site we built for you isn’t here, that’ll be why. Enjoy!

Please note that all clients have editing access to their own sites, so the live links might include changes that we didn’t author.

1. Euan Robertson Photography

A bold and impactful site built around a confident new brand, this was an editorial-style website to set Euan Robertson’s exceptional work apart, and put his vision front and centre. We also handled a rebrand for Euan that became the basis for this site and his other collateral.

A minimalist two-colour palette and sprawling, spacious layouts showcase the work with no fuss; clean typography and overlapping elements abound to make for a striking, graphic site to match his work.

Jason Williams is another very talented photographer, with a unique eye and a really up-close, visceral style that puts you right in the thick of the action. We built this mostly monochrome site with image curation front and centre - we worked to make sure that the written copy and the imagery were combining perfectly to extoll the benefits of his beautiful work.

3. Stravaigin Restaurant and Bar, Glasgow

Refining the branding design for Stravaigin, one of Glasgow’s best established restaurant bars, and then building this beautiful bespoke website to match the eclectic offering… no pressure, right? Stravaigin has a quarter of a century of history and yet feels vibrant and youthful - threading that needle for the website was a really exciting challenge. Website is built in Wordpress with a custom theme based on the Divi platform.

4. Reagan Hallett catering

We built Reagan Hallett Catering’s brand and website around her banquet-style social dining offering. She creates incredible sharing tables and produces hearty, warming fare - rich wintry colours and typography that captures that family heritage were the basis for the site, along with some custom photography and video that we shot at the wonderful Engine Works in Glasgow.

Site is built in Squarespace for ease of client editing, and heavily customised.

5. Jo + Liam

Building a site for Jo + Liam, legendary Glasgow wedding photographers and good friends of the Wasps, was all about telling two stories - one about their unique personalities, and one about their exceptional work. We ended up with a Wordpress site that I think does both, and leaves the user in no doubt of the key reasons to want to work with them.

This website project was the second stage of a larger project to rebrand and reposition Jo + Liam as a duo and acknowledge Liam’s joining the business full time.

Ubiquitous Chip is another client that combine fresh and cutting edge ideas with an incredible legacy. A Glasgow institution for almost half a century, the Chip is constantly reinventing itself. We worked with them to create some unique, mouthwatering video content, and then built their Wordpress site around that. Commercial performance of the site is excellent, with high traffic and very low bounce rates, and good search engine performance.

8. Kitschnbake Cafe, Fife

Kitschnbake are a brilliant cafe in Newport on Tay, near Dundee. They’re a centrepiece of the local community - a true one-of-a-kind establishment, with a fantastic local reputation and beloved owners. We created a rebrand and a new website for them, to bring their presentation up to the standard of their incredible home-made sausage rolls - and we even got to photograph their epic cakes.

9. Buddy’s BBQ and burgers, Glasgow

Buddy’s BBQ and Burgers are Glasgow’s original burger MVP, long before the burger explosion that saw gourmet burger joints popping up on every corner of the city. We worked with them to freshen up their branding, and present their indulgent food through photography and video content that then formed the cornerstone of the website.

10. Harper Scott Photo

We’ve been working with Harper Scott Photo for five years now, and she’s an incredible example of someone entering a very saturated market from a standing start, and quickly establishing herself at the top of the market through a combination of excellent talent and a great mind for business. We built this new site for her in 2019, heavily customising a Squarespace template, and building on the branding work we’ve done over the past several years.

11. Fin Flükra

Fin Flükra is a brilliant, experienced wedding planner, with great connections in the industry and a wonderful imagination for creative weddings. We worked with her to find a name and a brand identity that captured her Shetland upbringing and also alluded to her knack for creating unique weddings, and then to build a bold, colourful, textured website that communicates the key reasons to work with her for your own wedding.

15. Taypark House, Dundee

Taypark House is a fabulous country house hotel, who got in touch to work on a new website with a specific goal in mind: increase awareness and interest in their new wedding offering. Since launching their clean new site built round a fun (and delicious!) photography shoot, the venue has gone from strength to strength, and the awesome Stables space on the grounds of Taypark has become established as a great alternative wedding space for Dundee.

16. Vicki Clayson photography

Awesome Leicestershire photographer Vicki Clayson has a wonderful, bold and colourful approach to photography. We loved building a brand and a website around this unique style, and capturing Vicki’s magnetic personality and love of travel into the bargain. 17. Origami Fox

It’s always nerve-wracking to work on design elements for other designers - and Anna from Origami Fox is a very talented graphic designer in her own right. We photographed loads of her beautiful, unique stationery, and we did it in a fun, graphic style to really showcase the work in a striking way. Then we built a site around it that incorporated plenty of her illustrations, and allowed her to sell some of her off-the-shelf collections directly on the site.

18. Big Bear Bakery

Today, Big Bear Bakery are one of Glasgow’s most popular and beloved bakeries, with queues stretching into the south side of Glasgow every time they open their shop. I never tire of noting, however, that when they first started working with us, they were one of the best kept secrets in the city. We’ve loved working with them to revitalise their brand, and to create an e-commerce website that regularly sells cakes via organic traffic, and that has cut down their consultation process for custom-ordered cakes massively, saving them time and energy.

19. The Giraffe Shed, Central WALES

The Giraffe Shed is another fantastic example of a business that is now very well established and admired in the alternative wedding community throughout the UK. We were in on the ground floor, building on an existing (and awesome) brand to create a website that put their unique features - and there is no shortage whatsoever! - front and centre. Happily, co-owner Hannah is an amazing photographer and generated tremendous imagery and other content for the website. Between this, the beautiful brand and some amazing illustrations, we had an embarrassment of riches to play with for this fun, creative and colourful website design.

20. Claire Fleck, Edinburgh

Claire Fleck is an exceptional, creative photographer based in Edinburgh, with a background in textile designs and an elegant and unique shooting style. We wanted to create a brand then a website that matched that elegance, and baked her interest in design and interiors and minimalism into the design. Again, like all of our web design projects for photographers, this was a project with image curation central to the process.

This was a minimalist and editorial-inspired site, full of white space and clean lines and painted textures.

Bonus: Walnut Wasp

Hey, you know - we quite like our own site as well! It never particularly feels “finished”, and that’s still very true today, but it’s full of work we’re proud of and we get a nice wee feeling when we look at it, so we stuck it on the end of the list even though you’re literally already on it.

We’d absolutely love to hear from you and to help you with your own aesthetic and design-led website.
